How to Install a Docking Drawer Blade Outlet into a 10" Wide DrawerUpdated 13 days ago

Purchasing the Right Outlet

While any Blade outlet can be installed into drawers as narrow as 9”, we recommend purchasing our 15 amp Blade Compact Vanity Outlet (or the 20 amp configuration), which will require fewer drawer modifications. Our Compact Vanity Outlets are designed with narrower cable management arms to fit into drawers as narrow as 11” without requiring any modifications, and they will more easily fit into drawers as narrow as 9” by applying our narrow drawer installation technique. Bookmark this technique, as you will need to reference it for specification into your 10” wide drawer.

Installing Your Docking Drawer

Step 1: Ensure you have a power outlet located at the back of your cabinet wall.

If you do not have power inside the cabinet, you’ll want to run a new outlet for power before getting started. If installing into a furniture drawer, ensure there is an outlet within reach of your Docking Drawer to connect power.

Step 2: Unbox your Docking Drawer

Step 3: Remove the installation instructions and cutout templates to reference and use during installation.

Step 4: Gather your tools. You will need:

  • Oscillating Multi-Tool or Jigsaw

  • Drill with Drill Bits

  • Screwdriver

  • Measuring Tape

  • Pencil

Step 5: Adhere the cutout templates at the back of your drawer box

Step 6: Drill 4 holes at the corner of your cutout template, where instructed

Step 7: Follow your cutout template to cut a hole in the back of the drawer box

Step 8: Apply the narrow drawer installation technique.

Unless you have empty space inside the cabinet to utilize, you will need to apply our narrow drawer installation technique. This technique requires the cutting of a channel in the side wall or divider wall of the cabinet to make room for the outlet’s cable management arms to extend and contract as the drawer opens and closes. This will be required regardless of whether you purchased a Compact Vanity Outlet or a standard Blade outlet, but the channel required will be smaller when working with our Compact Vanity Outlet, which features 11” cable management arms vs the standard 13” arms.

Step 9: Re-insert your drawer box.

Step 10: Insert your Docking Drawer outlet.

Step 11: Attach the mounting brackets to the back of the cabinet wall.

Step 12: Ensure smooth movement of the drawer.

  • If the drawer isn’t functioning properly, revisit Step #8 to ensure the cable management arms are properly leveled and centered.

Step 13: Attach the outlet cover plate.

Step 14: Plug your outlet into the power source at the back of the cabinet wall

Viola! You’re ready to enjoy the benefits of connected devices safely inside the drawer and eliminate cord and device clutter from your countertops and surfaces.
