How To Update a Docking Drawer ReceptacleUpdated 3 months ago

It is possible to update your Docking Drawer outlets as needs or technology change over time, ensuring a future-proof solution. Simply follow these steps to update your in-drawer outlet:

  1. Purchase Replacement Outlet: Ensure you purchase a Decora-style outlet that matches the amperage requirement of your Docking Drawer solution. You can purchase a replacement outlet from almost anywhere, including Home Depot, Amazon, or in our online store.

  2. Remove Your Docking Drawer Outlet: For easier accessibility during this process, we recommend removing your outlet from the drawer box:

    • Detach cable management arms from the cabinet wall
    • Remove the outlet cover plate
    • Remove the mounting screws that secure your Docking Drawer to the drawer box
    • Remove the outlet and set it on a flat work surface
  3. Remove the Receptacle: Remove the 2 screws holding the outlet to the receptacle box.
  4. Disconnect Wires: Carefully detach the wires from the old outlet and carefully remove it.
  5. Wire New Outlet:

    • Connect Black Wire: Attach the black wire to the HOT terminal on the new outlet, and secure it with the brass screw.

    • Connect White Wire: Connect the white wire to the WHITE terminal on the new outlet, and secure it with the silver screw.

    • Connect Green Wire: Attach the green wire to the GREEN terminal on the new outlet and secure it with the green screw.

  6. Install New Outlet: Place the new outlet into the receptacle box and secure it using the two mounting screws removed earlier.

  7. Re-install your Docking Drawer outlet into the drawer box. Be sure to reference our installation manual, as needed.

The following video demonstrates how to replace a Docking Drawer receptacle while the outlet remains in the drawer box. PLEASE NOTE: Since outlets can vary slightly in size, we recommend following the steps above and first removing your outlet so you can work on a flat work surface, ensuring an easier process.
